History: The known history of Danger Days begins in 2019 in the deserts of southern California, in a post-apocalyptic future marked by a sharp break from the world as we know it many years earlier. After years of environmental and human-made disasters stripped the Earth all but bare of resources, leaving it barely liveable, a shining beacon rose up in place of what was once Los Angeles - Battery City. A centre of scientific, medical and technological advancement, it presented itself as a place of hope and better living, but scratching the surface veneer would quickly show it to be anything but. Outside of the city were vast swathes of desert called the Zones, populated by small pockets of people who knew better.
2012 was the year that the Analogue Wars - also known as the Helium Wars - began, as a response to the increasingly tyrannical reign of a corporation known as Better Living Industries (BL/Ind). Holding complete control over Battery City, they controlled the population through fear, propaganda, drugging and even brainwashing, ensuring that everyone knew the consequences of stepping out of the very narrow lines that it drew to indicate acceptable behaviour. Anything outside of these lines - any emotion above baseline, any aggression, any attempts at non-conformance or resistance - was deemed unacceptable and thus severely punished, even to the point of the offending individual being replaced with a compliant android that would maintain the 'perfect' facade and ensure order.
The Analogue Wars were swift, and brutal. Spearheaded by those who had escaped the city walls and the ever-watchful eye of BL/Ind, it was a scream out against the oppression that had been imposed against those still trapped inside. There were brief, shining moments in which it seemed they might even win, but in the end the harsh environment, lack of resources, and a lack of people after so many deaths ensured that BL/Ind would emerge victorious.
These Wars were not without their beacons of hope, however, and several of their leaders stood out. None more so than a fierce, fiery young woman who fought to the bitterest end and was not killed, but instead 'masked' and turned into one of the soulless, emotionless soldiers of BL/Ind - their worst weapon, by far - a Draculoid. This woman's rage, her hope, and her sheer will to see the city freed was passed into her unborn child, who was carried to term and rescued from Battery City not long after her birth by a group of hell-raising teenagers calling themselves the Fabulous Four.
Kobra Kid, Fun Ghoul, and Jet Star, headed by their leader Party Poison, infiltrated the city and lifted the infant from the clutches of BL/Ind. From then on, with the help of those few around them worth any kind of trust, they raised her in the Zones under the shadow of being wanted criminals for their actions and their continued defiance. It was difficult, but the sense of community in the Zones and the idea that one day this Girl was going to grow up to be a saviour to them all kept them going even through the times they might have thought it just too much to ask. However, they were not the only ones who were aware of just how special The Girl could grow up to be.
Eventually, BL/Ind would put their best exterminator on the case, the head hitman of their SCARECROW unit, Korse. Korse tracked the group into the desert, luring them into a standoff and leaving them in the sand while he took the Girl back to the city. It didn't take long for the Fabulous Four to follow, and they blasted their way into the building where she was being held with little effort. The way out, though, was not so easy. Draculoids stormed the building, forcing the four into a showdown in the lobby of the building. They might have come through it by the skin of their teeth, had Party Poison not been momentarily distracted as he ripped off the mask of a Draculoid... and recognised the face underneath. This heartbeat-hesitation allowed Korse all the time he needed to pin the young man to a wall, shooting him fatally through the bottom of his jaw with a ray gun.
One by one, the group are gunned down. Party's body slumps to the floor and Kobra Kid - his brother - shoots wildly in a blind rage until he is taken down. Fun Ghoul ushers Jet Star out of the door with the Girl, only to be shot dead moments later. Jet is gunned down over the bonnet of their car, in the middle of a last-ditch attempt to get the child to safety. Luckily, they had made arrangements with another group of rebels, who come rushing onto the scene in a van and grab the Girl to whisk her away.
What happens to the Fabulous Four after that is never confirmed. Whatever it is... they are either dead, or as good as dead, and this is one of those few times when the former would be better.
Personality: As someone who spends the majority of his time hanging around three young men with at least a dozen personality problems held between them, one might expect Jet Star to be yet another of the same kind. However, every group needs at least one sane, rational individual to keep them all from flying completely off the handle, and Jet is the one of the Four who can (almost) always be turned to for a sensible opinion.
In contrast to his friends, Jet is a calm, balanced person with an overall friendly demeanour, never prone to shouting or even raising his voice unless absolutely necessary. It is in this way that he often wins arguments with the more fiery personalities that he surrounds himself with, even when they hate him for being right, and he pointedly never takes any dramatic nonsense from anybody. For Jet, problems are often not insurmountable, and it's the attitude with which you approach them that has to change if something isn't working. A practical way of looking at things, if a somewhat infuriating one for those of his allies who would just as quickly lose their temper entirely and kick something rather than try to talk through a problem.
It would be easy to think that Jet simply ignores the problems around him, but nothing could be further from the truth. He is as finely tuned to the struggles and daily pressure of being hunted down as criminals that everyone else in the Zones is, and none more than the Fabulous Four, but his way of dealing with it is not to shout and scream in the face of it. A wasted expense of energy, he would say, and one that could be better put to use in other ways. What ways, you might ask? Well, zonerunners don't survive long if they don't start getting inventive really quickly.
On immediate first impressions Jet Star - a broad-built, 6'1" man who can easily look intimidating - is personable and good-natured, with a gentle and articulate way of speaking that more than lends itself to the conciliatory role that he often takes. He is a patient person, a little too mellow as far as most of those who know him are concerned, but someone has to make sure that things stay fair and that his friends always have at least one person that they know cares about their well being, without any question. Jet's temper does not sit on a hair-trigger and it takes a great deal to push him into anger, giving an impression of a level of restraint that almost seems abnormal when compared with the likes of Party Poison.
Jet Star is realistically-minded, and won't turn up his nose to help if it's offered to him. He is, however, very self-sufficient and somewhat proud, and though he would accept help he would not like to be reduced to the position of needing it.
He is not one to be walked over, however. Like everyone in the Zones Jet Star comes along with a core of steel and a strong-willed determination to live the kind of free and independent life that Battery City seeks to take away from them. It is something that he has and will fight for, and woe betide anyone who would even think to tell him that it isn't worth it. To Jet, comfort and a roof over your head means nothing if you don't have the freedom of mind and liberty of body to enjoy it, and it is that philosophy that makes him a sure fit for the Zones, despite other oddities that would make a person think otherwise. He is loyal to the cause of the Zones, its runners and to the cause that Party Poison, Kobra Kid, Fun Ghoul and all their allies espouse - that people should be free, and that Battery City and BL/Ind need to be taken down.
Inventory:
+ canon clothing
+ blaster (blue)
+ sunglasses
+ eye patch (needed temporarily)
Abilities: Survival skills. Decent aim in a pinch. Can eat pretty much anything. Taming wild Killjoys.
Flaws: Though there are many ways in which Jet is not like his friends, he still carries the same suspicion of all things and people unknown that they do. Trust is hard to come by in their world, and that holds true for him as well. Likewise, he is sometimes impulsive and easily pulled into Party Poison's plans, even if he believes them to be ill-advised. He would say that this is because he needs to keep an eye on Party, but in reality, he likes taking down Dracs as much as they do. Jet can get very introspective and in this way can often entirely overlook how his friends are feeling, and despite being slow to anger he can hold grudges for a very, very long time.
